With Sarah having in house training as a dancer she is aware of the injuries that can occur, Sarah will assess and treat the necessary area of the pain or soreness.

Where does it come from?

Sports massage is a blend of elements from eastern and western massage techniques. Research and development of sports massage is particularly strong in the UK and the USA. The last few years have seen constant validation of the benefits of this therapy and the further developments of techniques.

What can I expect?

Your therapist will take details of your health before commencing treatment. The massage is received unclothed on a massage couch although you will often see sports masseurs working ad-hoc at the side of football pitches or sporting arenas. A therapist will start by vigorously warming the body before applying deeper pressure at a level which you are comfortable with. You can expect to work with your therapist too, as they lead you through special stretches which will help lengthen and condition the muscles. The benefits of this form of massage are some of the most noticeable. Where does it come from?

Massage itself is age old, stemming back at least 5000 years, with evidence of it's medicinal use found in many ancient cultures. People have always instinctively rubbed sore points or aching limbs to relieve pain or discomfort. In the early 1800's, a systematic form of massage, was devised by Henreich Ling, a Swede. This form of massage is known as Swedish massage and is based on knowledge about the body's physiology. It is now one of the most popular forms of massage, forming the basis for many other styles of therapeutic and relaxation massage.

What can I expect?

Swedish massage is a form of massage that is received unclothed, usually on a special massage couch. Soft towels are draped over your body to ensure you are warm, comfortable and that your privacy is maintained throughout your treatment. Traditionally Swedish massage is carried out using talcum powder but more commonly this treatment uses specially tailored massage oils and lotions which your therapist will discuss with you.

Deep tissue Massage is a form of therapy quite similar to swedish massage,deep tissue massage requires firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deep layers and connective tissue surrounding the muscles,This type of treatment is beneficial to releasing chronic tension.Sarah spearing our sports massage therapist can also help with Deep tissue Massage for people that also have aches and pains brought on by overworking muscles and general stress.

A study has shown that having a deep tissue massage can help lower the blood pressure. Psychiatrists have found that having some form of massage therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety and induce relaxation, having a deep tissue massage help with the hormone levels, boosting your mood and increases a positive mood.
